Cake Bites - An Intro & FAQs

Hi der ! Welcome to my blog !!

I am Namrata Khandeparkar from Goa . I am a IT engineer turned into a homebaker :D yeah

I started this business named "Cake Bites",  as a  homebaker and Fondant Cake Artist  in August 2015 in Margao, Goa and it has been hell of a journey(its too early to call it a journey) . I absolutely loved each and every day at work now :)

So I get all sort of calls to place orders , to ask what flavours we offer at Cake Bites , queries on fondant and non fondant cakes etc etc

So what better place to answer them ? I thought I will start this blog by answering all your queries on that and wait for some upcoming posts on mini cake tutorials , some tricks n tips on baking and recipes too !

That is enough for now about me and my blog , let me  dive into the FAQs. But before that a description about all terms used .

So with reference to above cake , you will get a idea of what terminology is used . Cake is made up of
  • cake layers (e.g vanilla , chocolate , red velvet)
  • fillings (Strwberry buttercream , salted caramel buttercream , ganache )
  • cake is den covered with a thick layer of icing such as buttercream or ganache
  • if you are going for fondant cake , then a thin layer of fondant will come on top of this
FAQs
What is Cake Bites about ?
Cake Bites is all about baking cakes for your special occasions like birthdays , anniversaries , baby showers , engagement , wedding , etc. We specialize in 'customized cakes' . Now customization can be done at various levels i.e. rite from flavours to look of the cake. Will explain
  • you can customize the combination of cake with filling as per your choice. e.g if u like coconut and Nutella , we can have a coconut cake with Nutella buttercream or ganache.
  • if you are health conscious and prefer wheat flour being used instead of maida , that can be done :) (without affecting the taste of  the cake )
  • you can customize and personalise the look of the cake , e.g. for a first birthday you want a cake which depicts about your kid and the his/her's fav toys. Send me the pics of the toys , and we will make edible replicas of them , to be placed on cake. These are called 'toppers'
Is Cake Bites a shop ? Which cakes you have ready today ?
Cake Bites is not a shop outlet. I have my workshop in a flat , where I bake cakes , decorate them and I also do conduct baking cookery workshops of one or two days. You can check contact number and addr in COntact Us section .
The most important thing at Cake Bites is that the cakes are baked only on preorders. Yes !  So cakes are NOT made and kept for days in freezer. They are freshly made to order, for which you need to call us or whatsapp us to check if we are available or full on that day , after a discussion on flavours , and look of the cake , a price is quoted  after which you can confirm the order by doing a 50% payment via cash or netbanking.
At Cake bites , preorders ensure that you get fresh cakes every time and there is not wastage of cakes . We also use quality ingredients like Amul Butter , Cadbury coco etc , NO MARAGRINE ! (I think this also answers questions like why your cakes are priced higher than the bakeries :P )
What are fondant cakes ? Is fondant sweet ? Is it that hard layer on cake ?
This is one of the most FAQ. First of all fondant is nothing but simple sweet sugar dough. So yes it will be sweet :) Fondant is popular since it gives a smooth finish to the cake , and it works like clay , you can mould it into any shape desired ! That's what allows us to make edible 3d animals on cake , 3d human figures etc
In Goa , although people want customized cake , they dont like fondant much. Hence at cake bites , we make sure that the icing covering the cake is thick and fondant on top of it is very thin , which almost nullifies the effect of  sweetness of fondant. And there have been clients who hated fondant before , but are placing orders with us because the taste is very much balanced :) Fondant is not a hard substance. It is a sugar dough , rolled into a sheet and then placed on top of cake.  So before saying no to fondant , try it out at Cake Bites :)
